We are receiving a lot of enquiries about the meningitis B vaccination and would ask that you read the following information before contacting the surgery.
The vaccination schedule is set by the UKHSA and they currently ask us to vaccinate babies against meningitis B as they are the group at the highest risk from this particular strain of the disease. We cannot offer vaccinations outside of the routine schedule unless authorised to do so by the UKHSA although you can source it privately if you choose to. There is not a catch-up programme for this vaccination. Please read this link for more information: https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/menb-vaccine-for-children/
Other more common forms of meningitis such as A, C, W &Y strains are covered by vaccinations given at 13 or 14yrs old (yr 9). These are usually done by the school health team although if missed can be given up to 25yrs of age by our practice nurse team. If you meet this criteria please contact the surgery and a practice nurse will check your record before you book in. https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/menacwy-vaccine/
Catch up programmes for vaccinations do very much depend on your age and the vaccination schedule at that time so not everyone is eligible for every vaccination on the NHS.
