Training Afternoons - Surgery Closing Times
One afternoon per month the surgery will be closed from 13:00 for 'Quality Educational Study Time' or 'QUEST'. This protected time is authorised by the local clinical commissioning group and provides practices with a small amount of protected time to concentrate on essential training and quality.
During the time the practice is closed, urgent problems are dealt with by the out of hours service. Patients should telephone the surgery number and they will be diverted automatically to the out of hours provider.
What To Do When We Are Closed
If you think you need a doctor when the surgery is closed, you should stay at home and telephone the usual surgery phone number on (01246) 244040. You will be asked to call an out of hours centre where someone will discuss your problem over the phone and advise you of the best course of action.
NHS 111 Service - for 24 hour advice
The NHS 111 service makes it easier for you to access local NHS healthcare services. If you live in Luton, County Durham and Darlington, Lincolnshire, or Nottingham City, you can call 111 when you need medical help fast, but it isn’t a 999 emergency.
NHS 111 is free to call and is a fast and easy way to get the right help – whatever your need, wherever you are, and whatever the time.
You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation.
You should call 111 if:
- it's not a 999 emergency
- you think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service
- you don't think it can wait for an appointment with your GP, or
- you don't know who to call for medical help
For less urgent health needs you should still contact your GP in the usual way.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
NHS 111 Online
111 online is a fast and convenient alternative to the 111 phone service and provides an option for people who want to access 111 digitally.
Your needs will be assessed and you will be given advice about whether you need:

If you need face to face medical attention you may be asked to attend a Primary Care Centre.
